It's been a wild, wet and windy night even without the storm reaching here. I can't imagine how bad it must be down south. I really hope that everyone is safe and dry.The catch-up with an acquaintance went better than I anticipated, we avoided the 'elephant', had a coffee and bun and chatted amicably, thank goodness that I only need to see her once more.I got home in time for the postie. This time she delivered two new pyjama sets (perfect fit),two new pairs of shoes (too small) and my poo test. We get this every two years here, luckily it's evolved from from being a terrible task into something very easy to do. So many people don't do, I suppose they are worried about the result. This seems counterintuitive to me. Anyway, I'll wait to do it until Monday. This morning I'm hoping to go up the road to post the shoes back, I've also got a small parcel for crossword man, he's getting a selection of the German Christmas biscuits which my cousin sent me. Of course, I've kept my two favourites and the nougat. Yesterday was St Nikolaus day so I made up the traditional plate of biscuits and nuts just like my late mother made for us children. My plans are very much weather dependent and fluid. Incidentally, I finally made the soup yesterday, it now needs to be blended. Somehow I felt a little virtuous, without any good reason. Tonight's delight will be Strictly and soup. 😂
Keep safe. Hugs to our poorlies and families.11 -
Morning everyone and 'thank you' for starting us off Gers.
It's still dark here, but the wind is strong and it's raining. Looks like a day for staying in and watching the TV.
Hope everyone stays safe.9 -
Morning All
It was just wet and breezy last night, same this morning. Hope everyone is safe from the storm, especially our Welsh pals.
Got home to all the shelves, pictures and clock put on the walls in the kitchen so that's that done, I have two spare shelves that I will take back to Ikea - maybe not today!
I have a big list of shops to visit this morning, need to get everything done as the sofa should arrive tomorrow - I'm a bit nervous that it won't fit in the doors with the bother getting the larger of the two old ones out! Waiting to hear today what time slot I have been given.
Hope the little one is improving dp1.
Glad the meeting was ok Gers, shame you have to send the shoes back. I've just had my poo stick test, much easier than it used to be.
Glad you enjoyed Peter Kaye Chrisca.
Hope your SIL wakes soon Coxy.
Enjoying all the Christmas carols and songs taff, thank you.
Hope your cough has subsided this morning TA.
Bathrooms have been cleaned this morning, will put washing in the machine once I've had a shower.
Have a good weekend, take care. XX

Morning folks and thanks GERS. The stormy weather hasn't hit us yet and when it does arrive it will be nowhere near as bad as the south west are getting. Heavy rain and blustery winds are forecast for us. My thoughts are with our little Welsh contingent and hoping NAN and DEREK are safe.
I decided to go down and collect my meds yesterday instead of this morning, to avoid turning out and getting soaked and blown about. I also got a bottle of cough medicine even though I don't have much faith in them. And when did they get so expensive! It's a strange cough which bothers me most when I am laid down. Hence another sleepless night.
Youngest DGD is staying tonight, It's always nice to have their company. DD is on a works do, her DP and middle DGD both have plans too so her plan is to stay with me! If I haven't got on with the trimming up when she arrives she can help me.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. I hope everyone stays safe through the storm. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"10 -
Morning allI'm glad I enjoyed my birthday eve on Thursday as my actual birthday yesterday was a washout. I've caught a tummy bug from somewhere and it made an appearance yesterday so am feeling even more like a wet rag this morning. Hope it will subside today!I usually do some baking on a Saturday but will stay well away from the kitichen today methinks!Hope everyone in the eye of the storm stays safe and hugs to everyone who needs one.Take care x9

Hello everyone
Definitely wild and windy here in N Worcestershire - waiting to hear from my good friends who live in Anglesey, they had the emergency broadcast yesterday and had tried to secure everything possible but were struggling to keep their cat occupied as he wanted to go out!
I’m supposed to be at a craft fair this afternoon, the main route to get there flooded in the last storm and I’m wary about tree branches. It’s in a smallish village and I wonder how many people will turn out when there are 60mph+ gusts! Will decide in the next hour or so.Otherwise no plans! Please take care and best wishes to all those in the red zone!AA9 -
Hi everyone,
I'm in bed in our Yorkshire house listening to the rain on the velux window. We'll get up soon as we have quite a bit to do today.
We spent the previous two nights in a Best Western hotel in York, it had definitely seen better days. We were in the Frankie Howerd room complete with photos of him and his cronies and I don't think the room had been touched since his heyday. It was clean enough but I wished we'd not paid for the breakfasts, also out of the seventies, tinned fruit and mini boxes of cereal which I would have been thrilled about at that time.
We wandered around York on Thursday and had a lovely evening meal. Yesterday we stopped at Ilkley on the way over here and had a root around there as well.
We arrived to find the log store empty, we'd bought £60 worth last time we were up and considering there have only been about three weeks worth of guests they must have had roaring fires every night. We need to replace today.
TA it might be worth a trip to the Dr, my sil had this and it was caused by acid reflux irritating when she was lying down, worth investigating.
Dp1, I hope little one is better.
Have a good day.

Morning all.
We had an enjoyable time at Waddesdon Manor yesterday but I seem to have come home with a rotten cold. I've taken some paracetamol but we're meant to be driving down to Hampshire for a pub lunch with DH's sister and family and I don't really feel up to it. Will have to see if DH still wants to go on his own. I feel awkward about it, as they suggested cancelling yesterday because of the weather but we wanted to go ahead and now I feel it will look bad if I don't go.
@snoozer: thanks for the info about the York hotel. We are hoping to take DH's other sister there next year, when she's over from Oz and that might have been an option. We've stayed in the Best Western at Pickering some years ago, which was rather higgledy piggledy but generally ok. That breakfast sounds pretty poor.
Hope everyone else has a good Saturday; keep dry and warm.

Good? morning from Mehefinland
Well South Wales is shut!! No trains, buses, public services etc. etc. It is very windy with some terrific gusts which make the house shake. Quite scary on occasions. I live quite close to the Bristol Channel and the wind just funnels up it, with very little to stop the blast. I kept the horses in this morning and they were quite unsettled as it is noisy, but they are safer in than out at the moment. Will review the situation in an hour or so. I was worried I was going to lose the old hayshed in this wind, but so far it has survived. I'm not sure if it will when the wind changes direction though.Time will tell.
Off to see to my NDN's dog as she has been called in to the care home where she works for a 12hr shift as they can't get sufficient staff. Not sure what to say about that!!
Stay safe, and do not go out in this wind. I unfortunately have to, but if you have no important reason- stay in.
Hugs and spoons as always
A windswept and very worried Mehefin aka Derek8
