Tefal Ingenio - Sauce pan handle issue

Hello,

In Jan 2023, I bought from a local Tefal store a new set of "Ingenio saucepans". They come with a detachable handle for easy storage as without the handle the pans neatly stack within each other.

The handle has a release button which when depressed allows this disconnection from the saucepan and it came with a 10 year guarantee.

My handle now seems to be malfunctioning (doesn't always release from the pan), so I have just rung the customer service department who asked for the receipt, given that Tefal never made this product 10 years ago then it should logically not be required however my credit card company is helpfully sending me a copy statement.

Meanwhile and bizarrely, I was informed by the customer services operator that the handle should only be attached to the pan whilst stirring or lifting from the hob.  This apparently is in the instruction manual too (no longer able to be found).  I understand the handle should not be attached when the pan is put in the oven, but it seems like an obvious use case to leave the pan attached to the handle whilst "cooking" regardless of whether I need to stir or lift, just like a regular saucepan.

They claim that leaving it attached to the pan could damage the handle due to heat transferrence, but wouldn't their product design team of taken that into account?

Any one else had experience of this type of bizarre lack of design thought?

For a long-lasting Ingenio handle: - it is recommended to remove the handle during cooking when it is not required to prevent it from overheating and ensure its durability, - to do not wash the handle in the dishwasher, nor submerge it in water. Simply wipe clean with a damp cloth. Overheating the handle can damage or break it. The handle may therefore no longer function correctly and there is the risk that the pan could fall and you could burn yourself. If you notice any heat damage to the handle it is advised that you do not use it and you should replace it with a new one. If your pan becomes misshapen after a knock or a fall, it should no longer be used and we recommend that you replace it with a new one. If you continue to use the pan ensure that you can still fit the handle securely on the pan and be aware that you will be using the pan at your own risk.
