The 12 Vents of Christmas 2024

Everyone will have their own list but these are my current ones:
Car insurance:
Why is no claims history only usable for ONE car BUT claims and accidents must be declared for EVERY car
Tradespeople:
If you want or quote professional working rates, then do a professional job
Banks:
Stop telling me to use your app but NOT allowing everything to be done on it
Insurance again:
Give me a fair renewal price the first time NOT after I’ve got a better price elsewhere and say I’m going
Car Manufacturers:
A list price of 50k is simply not right for an normal family hatchback
Mobile phone users:
In public take it off speaker, I really couldn’t care less that Dazza has broken up with Shazza
Amazon prime TV:
So you want me pay a subscription AND to watch adverts in every programme
Delivery apps:
You charge a service fee, delivery fee AND its extra if I want it delivered straight to me
Influencers:
Just !!!!!! and go away, you’re selling fast fashion, tat or stuff that can sourced elsewhere, don’t pretend or portray you’re curing cancers
Professional politicians:
A pox on all your houses for what you’ve forged this country into and not having any convictions beyond the next focus group
Car garages:
If you charged to diagnose the problem, doing x, then y and fixing with z and presenting a bill for diagnosis, x,y and z is a liberty.
MSE “experts” who aren’t experts:
If you can offer genuine help, advice or guidance - great, if you’ve responded just to belittle, hindsight or give wrong info when someone needs help - just stop typing
Bonus - Two more wider rants due to my advancing age:
Character vs Personality - We used to have a culture of character (Others espoused how good you were at things), now we have a culture of personality (check my social media, I’m truly fantastic) - Character was better
Me vs We - The impact your actions had on others used to really matter and had repercussions for truly selfish behaviours - We first includes Me, Me first excludes We.
Vent over from me - feel free to add your own

so true about MSE experts. I've been pulled up a couple of times for saying I think something and then say "but others know better" and they have. so I try to be more careful. But I do truly despair when someone asks a question, particularly when you can see they are brand new to it all and some comes back with a snarky "but don't you know that you should never....." Well if they knew they wouldn't ask now would they!?! What a great way to keep people from asking for help!!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. 11. Turning nouns into verbs. Such as the athlete medalled at the Olympics, instead of the athlete won a medal at the Olympics. I am not a pronunciation pedant . It just jars.
12 The overuse of superlatives. Sports commentators are the worst. Even the most minor thing is fantastic, incredible, unbelievable and of course the most overused one of them all by everybody, everywhere - AMAZING.Professional politicians:A pox on all your houses for what you’ve forged this country into and not having any convictions beyond the next focus group
I am not disagreeing generally, but you have to keep in mind that politicians in other countries are no better, and often a lot worse.3 -

I just literally hate the use of the word literally when they mean anything but.‘I was literally blown away by the response’3

Can we no longer be very or really happy. Do we all have to be super happy now? It grates every time

The mse 'experts' - I've visited mse regularly since the early days. There are a few regulars that I would trust with their expertise. I have seen many threads turned into chaos because someone, not so knowledgeable, thinks they are right when they are wrong. I think they just want to cause arguments. The other thing that irks me is when new or sometimes old users will headline their post with 'Urgent help needed' or similar. Receive time and effort from others in response, then never return. Even a thanks all sorted or something would be nice. There are many posts on here I've read that I'm dying to know the ending to but probably never will. The other is spelling and it's only a few words and is most likely these days cause by autocorrect.Debt - DeptAllowed - AloudAdvice - Advise, this one particularly annoys because when asking for advice you can hear vice not vise.Oh and the last one. Resurrecting a thread that's 4/5/6+ years old with 'How did you get on with x,y,z. I'm experiencing similar' or simply resurrecting it to add their advice. It's most likely from googling a situation and getting posts from mse but they do show the date of when they were posted.4

Anyone who uses the phrase 'reach out' when they mean write an email/make a phone call etc. First against the wall when I'm in charge.
If you're not a member of the Four Tops then it's not acceptable usage.10 -
