How long to wait for a V5?
I bought a car from a trader almost four weeks ago but I still haven't received the V5, when I've checked online the last change of ownership is from May so presumably from when the trader bought the car.
How long should I wait for the V5? The trader is ignoring my calls so do I need to inform the DVLA? I do have the New Keeper's bit and I've taxed it etc.

Never been more than 5 working days for me.1

Me neither - DVLA are usually very fast with V5s now. 3 days was my quickest.
Sounds like your trader might not have sent his part of the paperwork off or updated it online.0 -
Did they do V5 online when you bought it?
Normally less than a week when done that way.Life in the slow lane0 -
Just had 2 car changes (personal plate back to original and purchase of new car). Dealer used the on-line service from DVLA. Both arrived in post in 3 days.1

Was VED included in the sale or did you oay the dealer for it?
Are you driving an untaxed car?
When I bought my car the dealer taxed it while I was there so I could drive it away.0 -
First Post says they taxed it

That May V5C is unlikely to be the car going to the dealer.
Cars going into dealers don't generate a V5C issue - the body of the previous keeper's V5C stays with the dealer, and the "in trade" V5C/3 yellow slip goes to DVLA. That cancels the old keeper, and the car has no keeper for the duration it's with trader/s.
Did you see the V5C? It sounds as if the dealer may not have one, and has sent in a V62 for a new V5C in your name as new keeper. DVLA then contact the previous keeper and ask them if the transfer is legit. They have 28 days to reply.
Does the car show as taxed on https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ ?1 -

Pretend you are a dealer, so tick the I am a dealer box, then sold a vehicle out of trade. Enter traders details, get the email notification to yourself.
Then when it comes to entering the doc ref number just take the first digit off from the new keeper slip reference number. It will then either let you put your details in as a new keeper OR it will tell you that the vehicle hasn't been bought in to trade
If it hasn't been bought in to trade then you will need to fill in form V62 and post it off
Edited to say you need to put the buy date as the date you bought the tax1 -
