Replacement Fence post and new 6ft fence panel.

Fed up with fences! Been quoted £250 for supply and fit a replacement fence post and 6' panel. Prior to covid I paid £350 for two posts and three panels. Have prices risen that much? They would also need to remove the old post and panel of course and dispose of.

Prices of wood & labour have increased a lot over 4 years.Life in the slow lane3

The more you have done at the same time, the cheaper each unit will be as the people are on site anyway.
You will pay a premium for a smaller job.2 -
get Wickes to deliver a panel, post and a pointy thing you bang into the ground. 1hr job at the most.1

Have prices increased that much? Yes, they have. I had a fence at my old house in 2016 cost me £1,000. Same type of fence, three times the length, last year at my new house was nearly £10,0001

It depends an awful lot on what type of posts and panels you're talking about. But it doesn't sound all that unreasonable - especially if the "remove old post" involves a lot of digging out, removal, and disposal of a huge great chunk of concrete.Bear in mind, if you're getting a professional in to do it, they've got to factor in their time - time to travel to and from your house, as well as the time to actually do the job. It may well be basically a day's work for them all in, when everything is taken into consideration, leaving no time to fit in other jobs.Any chance you could DIY it? Replacing a single post and panel is not difficult - admittedly if you're talking about a large amount of fencing then "getting someone in" becomes increasingly attractive.1

Time costs money. Smaller job still incurs much of the basic time spent on a larger one. Also leaves the remainder of the day to be filled.0

Is it a concrete post or wood?0

Timber is up 40% since COVID. As is concrete and associated aggregates. Seems like a fair price in the current climate.0

Rather than dig out the concrete it is sometimes simpler to remove rotted wood stumb with a combination of drilling and chiseling old wood to make space for new post.caro69 said:
Its getting the old one out that would be a problem for us I'm afraid. Could have done it in our younger dayskm1500 said:get Wickes to deliver a panel, post and a pointy thing you bang into the ground. 1hr job at the most.
Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke0
