Harrods

(Not sure if this is the right thread - if not please move. Thanks.)

I have been given a Harrods Gift Card and wanted to use it by placing a telephone order. It says on the website under "Payment" that you can. Home Shopping dept said no and referred me to the store, who also said no and pointed out their 'Terms and Conditions' which say you can't.

I have sent an email to Harrods stating the facts and saying I think it's misrepresentation.

Has anyone out there managed to use a Gift Card for a telephone order?

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I don't know why everyone assumes Harrods is posh. For a lot of stuff it isn't.
I remember my brother had to get his school uniform from Harrods (grammer school that refused to go comprehensive so went independent which happened to be in SW London. My Mum moaned like mad about how it was a needless expense to have to get uniform there but a year down the line had changed her tune completely as although costing 20-30% more all the clothes lasted until outgrown and still looked like new so in the long run were actually a better buy as the quality was much much better and needed replacing less often that my chain store school stuff. Some things at Harrods are silly extravagences but some are actually good MSE shopping :)

I wish ... be a lot easier!! :rotfl: I'm not "rich" - I actually won the Gift Card in a competition. Perhaps there weren't many entries? - I understand why now!

Have had a reply email saying they've passed my email to the appropriate department!?

You could always sell it on ebay - gift cards/vouchers seem to go for almost face value ?

I meant qualify. I was asking you to qualify a statement that you wrote without backing it up.

Normal people shop at Harrods too.

Actually I also think the place is full of snobby people who are ignorant of the cost of money. I went there today, mainly to have a look around the food-hall, as it was open late and on our way home.
In my opinion everything is overpriced. Everything is "luxury", and I hated the place. Now I have nothing against spending for quality, but this place leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

We fancied a snack, but the cheapest sandwich we could find in the deli bar was £14. A hot chocolate would have been nice, but they was £11. £11 !
Okay, I might expect to pay that sitting on the shores of Lake Como, or the Galeria by the Scala in Milan, but not in a trumped up department store. If I wanted to buy a £1000 handbag for my partner, well yes I might be able to get it for £600 in the sale (albeit last seasons model) However the shopping experience there was not something I would savour.

Sorry to go off topic, but thank heavens for John Lewis. Being rich doesn't mean you have to p**s your money away, as I might imagine Alan Sugar would say.

If I had a voucher, I would probably get a haircut in the barbers, which I remember being reasonable value a few years ago.

Blimey some people have had some terrible experiences in there! We took our son to see Father Christmas in November & had a fab day, spent about £30 in the food hall which included 2 cheeses we can't get locally any more, but were the same sort of pice as we used to pay when we could get them in our farm shop, some fab pies which were delish & only £2 each & my local butcher has taken on the idea to add to his range, sandwiches for the journey home, actually half a stuffed French stck at £3.50 each & far more than we could eat but the leftovers kept fine for next day. Plus we bought our son a toy, when I checked the price online when I got home it was the same price as everywhere else excepting ebay.. Lunch was a tad expensive in their restaurent but very very nice. And the service throughout was 2nd to none!

    Maybe avoid their sales?
