VW-Seat Leon Car key fob, still not working after new battery? - Does it need to be reprogrammed?
2007 Model - Seat Leon
Key fob, is the common VW black one with a few buttons. One to open (from a far distance) and one to close where you press it twice fast. (I think)
The same type of Key fob which an Audi, Polo, Golf, Skoda etc has as they are the same German company.
anyway it used to work fine weeks ago, then it stopped.
by that we mean pressing the button doesn't unlock the car automatically, even when standing next to it.
Assumed it was the round battery that went flat so replaced it with a new one. when put a new battery in it still doesn’t work.
after a new battery is put is there some form of combination/button pressing required, to program it to make it work?
and if the worse case scenario it doesn’t work, where can I get a new one for our car? and when I new one is got what price am I looking for? and will this new one have to be programmed? in a specific way?
by reprogram - I mean pressing some buttons in a combination.
any other comments or feedback would be appreciated.

I’ve replaced keyfob batteries on several VWs over the years and never had to reprogram anything.
Are you sure the new battery is actually a good one?Check it with a voltmeter - many from EBay etc are either cheap & nasty or old stock with very little charge left in them.0 -
It may need re-synced - check this (or similar searches):

Have you taken off the sticky label on the +ve side of the battery. I changed the battery on mine last week and had a mild panic until I realised I hadn't taken of the label.1

Decided I must be doing something wrong and eventually I noticed the little sticker on the underside of the battery.
Previous batteries did not have that sticker.

Previous batteries did not have that sticker. Some coin cells now have little blue ink dots on the negative side, These are probably not conductive- you'd think they should be..If there are dots it might be worth cleaning them off with an abrasive- they don't dissolve in alcohol.(They are to stop children eating them, and warn you if they do.The dot is a bright blue dye that dissolves in saliva and is the bitterest taste in the history of bitter tastes. If you place it on your tongue your tongue turns bright blue.)I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Danny, did the fob just stop working one day, and hasn't worked since? Usually a failing battery would show itself by a reducing range, or requiring repeated presses before completely failing, so there may be other issues here. But let's hope not.
Obviously try the battery swap/voltmeter test first, and check any 'pairing' required.
Download the exact year manual for your car, and this should explain any requirement.0 -
We had this a few months ago - key card fob thing needed to be re programmed
Husband used to keep it in his back pocket so it got sat on - this might have been the root cause as it flexes a bit0
