How long should a sofa last

2 years ago I made an error of purchasing a recliner leather sofa from The Sofa Collection through the Daily Mail shop online. This so called leather is splitting and worn badly. I also had to call out the company to repair stitching on the arm which needed redoing. The company have confirmed that the warranty was only for one year. I myself do not think that the sofa has served it's purpose and wondered if anybody on the forum can advise. This sofa cost £699.99. Ig I had read the TrustPilot reviews I would not have purchased and I feel that The Daily Mail should not have endorsed this company. Any help would be appreciated

Regardless of length of warranty, goods are required to be durable under the Consumer Rights Act, and a life of more than two years should be expected from a sofa.
Having said that, it isn't clear from the above photos that the root cause is a manufacturing flaw and it looks like at least some of it could be damage, so you might need to be prepared to get an independent inspection carried out if you wanted to pursue the merchant and encountered resistance.0 -
By any chance does the sofa get exposed to full sunlight?
If so, that could cause some of the damage your photos show.Past caring about first world problems.0 -
No not in sunlight but that seat is used constantly0

You can't manufacture a good quality leather sofa for a few hundred pounds, but I would expect 4-5 years from the cheapest with normal every day use.
However if a cheap sofa is used heavily every day it will get 4-5 years use 'normal' use over a much shorter period of time.
Our current three piece is about 10 years old and apart from wear on the recliner chair its good as new. It won't be replaced any time soon.0 -
Doesn't look like real leather. Was it marketed as such?0

That isn't real leather and you can see from the area that is creased, compressed and in need of tlc that it hasn't been maintained, sorry (no offence intended , it's what the photos show).
