Tesla faulty entertainment system

HI I have a Tesla that is 2 1/2 years old it had done 52,000 miles when I reported the issue with the sound in the car.
They want me to approve a quote of £600 before even looking at the vehicle £189.00 to plug it in.I have asked them to consider this is covered under the consumer rights act 2015 as a £60k car you would expect the entertainment system to last longer than 2 1/2 years they are saying the car is out of warranty on millage. I struggle with this because mileage does not effect the entertainment system directly.
So my question is is this covered under the consumer rights act 2015 ?

Have you done a system reset?
  • What is the warranty from new?

Out of warranty after 52k miles doesn’t sound right. Their website suggests 3 years 60k miles and longer for battery etc..

Length of time the unit has been operational will be far greater though. An average of over 50 miles a day driving adds up.

What is the actual fault? 'An issue with the sound in the car' sounds a bit vague.

If the identified fault was present when you bought the car, even if symptoms were not apparent then, you could have a claim under CRA 2015. How long have you owned the car? If more than 6 months, the onus is on you to show that the fault was probably present when when the contract of sale was agreed, ie when you bought the car. You would therefore need a diagnosis to show that although it would not necessarily have to be the £600 diagnosis that 'they' (whoever they are) have suggested you pay for.

Problems that occur with ICE systems after a few years are often caused by software bugs in OTA updates and are equally often fixed when the next OTA comes along.

Car manufacturers sometimes see ICE systems as mysterious black boxes which they buy in from a third party and they exclude them from their warranties.

Tesla offer a variety of warranties which depend on how you bought the car, some at least of their warranties specifically exclude-
Any parts (e.g., modems, SIM cards, etc.) or hardware or software retrofits, changes, adjustments, upgrades or updates (including any applicable labor) required to access (including, withoutlimitation, cellular or other network or system connectivity or technology standard, browser ornetwork protocols), use or maintain compatibility with any features or services externally suppliedto the vehicle, including, without limitation, streaming/radio/satellite media, navigation systems ormaps, internet browsers, entertainment, etc.

I was looking more towards towards the expectation s that a £60k cars audio system would last longer than 2 1/2 years ?

It also could be a lot less if you don't have it on all the time? Or I could have my car parked up all day with it on ?
This is why I say the mileage does not directly effect it

Typically yes OP but rights are with the trader (unless you purchased directly from Tesla) and after 6 months from delivery burden of proof sits with yourself so you'd ideally need something (typically an independent inspection) to show that the system was not of satisfactory quality (rather than this being something like user error/misuse/etc) and then you'd go to the trader to request a remedy + the cost of the inspection.

    If you didn't buy from
Tesla direct no harm in asking the trader to resolve without the inspection but if they fail to/refuse ideally you want something to prove your case (proof is only on the balance of probability, i.e more likely than not).

The CRA covers digital content so if I assume a car is mixed in that it's goods with digital content and the digital aspect should also meet the requirements of the CRA.
