Help: returned item tied up at Italian customs for 3 weeks, where do I go!?

I sent a watch back to Germany this year for repair it sat in German customs for weeks.  Posted 25 March they still didn't have it on 25 April but admitted they had received it some time before 7 May.  Received repaired watch back with me around 23 May.

So I wouldn't sweat it just yet.

Italian customs was a delay-line of mysterious length long before the B word. From my experience of posting stuff to Italy, Italians don't seem aware of how bad the delays can get, and worse, eBay don't seem to allow for that in the estimated shipping times. They work off a theoretical  timescale that European Air-mail _could_ achieve, not what it _does_ achieve.

Cue irate Italian customer wondering where their stuff is, because eBay said ...

Neither customer, nor seller, can do a darned thing about it either, which makes it all the more frustrating.

And now I know why a good number of eBay listings have "I do not ship to Italy" in the terms. Again, _long_ before the b Word.

I wouldn't expect things to have improved as a result of it, either!
