Pool of 2, carrying on if I keep my job

I'm really struggling emotionally.
Last Monday I was informed I was in a pool of 2 at risk of redundancy.
Basically cutting 2 jobs down to 1.
I have spent 2 years going out of my way to improve myself and I have improved many processes for the team.
If I'm not chosen to leave, how do I carry on working for a manager who I have now lost all respect for?

Take the redundancy option. Working relationships are key. Being unhappy at work is very apparent.0

Why have you lost respect for your manager? It is probably not their decision that the company needs to make cuts and implement staffing changes, and presumably they are trying to do it in a transparent and fair way?Yes, being made redundant is hard. Been there, done that. But the decision was taken in a much higher level than my individual manager although they were the one who had to implement the process. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
they are probably hoping that one of you will look for (and get) another job - then they won't have to make one of you redundant.

If you feel like that why don't you volunteer to be made redundant? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0

If you were chosen not to leave, presumably that would mean they valued your contributions over the past 2 years?
Businesses are being absolutely hammered by the increase to employer NI and this is coupled with the looming 6.7% increase to NMW. For most businesses this is a 5-6 figure hit off the bottom line and you'll find most businesses are needing to face similar difficult decisions.
In fact my business will likely to the same in the coming months (though we agreed we'd get Christmas out the way first) and I certainly wouldn't want the managers to be blamed.
Unfortunately, it was naive to think you can massively increase the costs to businesses, without expecting it to effect workers.Know what you don't1 -

As for the NMW and NI changes, this works out to an increase in cost to employ of around 10% for a full-time employee on NMW. It will be very painful for businesses with large proportion of lower-paid staff.0 -
What is the selection criteria?
In a pool of 2 it should be straightforward to work out who is staying/going.Sounds like you’d prefer to go judging by your opener.0 -
Thank you all for taking time to reply.
The company are not accepting volunteers for redundancy. Of course I could still choose to hand my notice in.
The company is making many millions in profit. The NI rise is not a consideration in this instance.
Now the process is well and truly underway it is very clear that there are 4 people who perform the same job, but as 2 have different job titles they have been excluded from the pool.
Although this has been raised in the consultations, along with providing evidence of the exact same wording within the job description. We have been stonewalled when asking for an explanation.
As you say. There are other jobs. I will move on.0 -
