Permanent marker as paint

Good day there, having been dabbling and trying to paint some small plastic items that will be handled a good bit with black permanent marker, a few different types of brand of permanent markers on different plastic surfaces however the permanent markers aren't actually permanent on some surfaces at least so am trying to figure out what type of paint one could use, a roll on or any good paint that adheres/sticks well to plastic surfaces, or a can of spray paint?
Thanks for any ideas

I've used PlastiKote spray paint on plastic and it works perfectly and stays put

You can use enamel paints on plastic, or you can use Acrylic paints. Enamel paints are solvent based but give good coverage. Acrylics are easier to use and also give good coverage, but usually need a protective coat (gloss or matt cote products are available). You need to work out what type of plastic and which is best.
You can also use rattle cans - you can use car spray cans designed for use on plastic parts. A bit messier and more expensive. Might be worth looking at modelling forums like Scale Model Forum (scalemodelling.co.uk)0 -

Polyolefin types like Polyethylene, HDPE or Polypropylene have a waxy surface, so normal paints ( or adhesives) do not work.
Whilst UPVC is much more amenable and the plastics used for car bumpers etc.
Other types will give variable results.
Unfortunately it is often difficult to identify what type of plastic something is made from, so some trial and error can be needed.0 -
I've uses Bedec for many years.Garden furniture, cast iron drain pipes and gates, now on plastic outdoor lights. It's waterbased too so easy to clean up afterwards and no fumes.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
