Recycling Canon ink bottles (not cartridges)

Hi all
I've just bought a new printer, one of the ones with tanks to refill from bottles rather than replacing cartridges. I thought that was more sustainable - silly me! The bottles are sturdy and good quality: it seems a shocking waste to simply stick them in the landfill bin, but Canon don't appear to reuse/recycle them as they do with cartridges and there's no recycling symbol on them. Any suggestions? (Googling brought up an American Canon representative's reply to a similar question. He states that their recycling programme does take the bottles, but the UK version stipulates which cartridges it accepts so it's not the same.)

If they are plastic then put them in for recycling rather than landfill.
We are fortunate that where we live recycling is easy - all of it, paper, glass, cardboard, plastic, metal etc goes into one bin and they sort it out at the recycling centres. Non of this mucking around with multiple bins, bags or other containers or trying to ascertain what goes where.
Likewise we don't have the recycling gestapo checking what's in there either.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1
