best card to apply for with 'new' credit history

hi all, i was wondering if anyone could offer advice on which credit card to apply for, now that i have a 'clean' credit report.

for the last two years, i've had a three phone contract showing as in default, but after a long struggle, and to cut a long story short, it has since been removed. i don't think my file makes for bad reading now, especially seeing as since discovering this site over a year ago i've made a concerted effort to get my act together.

my history of searches shows a couple of 'consumer letter enquiries,' which is me requesting my file, and a HR vetting search (i joined Barclays in July this year, and as such had to undergo a credit search).

apart from that, there are three current acts- a n'west open since 2001, an a & l which was open from jan - sept '07, and barclays since august '07. the only other is a n'west credit card that was closed in may '07, which over a 39 month history, shows as being in default 4 times (3 times a month overdue, once 2 months overdue), the last occasion back in june '06. i have also been on the electoral roll at my present address since 2004.

i've keen to crack on with my applying and stoozing now, since i've been doing it successfully on my g'friends behalf for the last year. the trouble is, i'm not sure where to start. i don't think my report makes for abysmal reading, though conversely i don't think i can jump straight into the likes of the amex 5% cashback offer either! b'card would have been a good place to start, but i can't get the basic deal because i am a staff member (platinum or nothin, apparently!!!).
any thoughts much appreciated, and Happy New Year!!!

Sorry to say it........ Your not going to get anything with that sort of history. You might think it makes not bad reading but lenders will think otherwise. To be a stoozer and get the 0% deals you need an A1 file. No lates, no shortcomings, no defaults, no ccj's, no br.... Nada...

Just lots of little green pee's - Also being on electoral role since 2004 aint that long a time. What happened before this?.......... It doesnt look good!

If you want a credit card you could try.....

www.vanquis.co.uk - but even these guys might turn their noses up with the number of lates and defaults listed:rolleyes: As for the mainstream lenders and 0& cards........ No chance:mad:

    Oh well...............

You credit record doesn't sound to bad to us but the credit industry is getting very strict for this coming year/s. Get pre-paid credit card and that way you can slowly rebuild your credit while you have a credit card in your wallet. Pay off all your debts...

Dont listen to this bloke! The word default 4 times is always bad in a record:rolleyes:

By the way its naughty to advertise and affiliate website in your signature. Post reported!

shows as being in default 4 times (3 times a month overdue, once 2 months overdue), the last occasion back in june '06.

I'm not sure he has actually defaulted here. He refers to 4 late payments (3 of 1 month and 1 of 2 months), rather than an actual default.

I may be wrong, but I think OP has got his terminology wrong?

Hopefully then, OP doesn't have a default against him, just some late payments.
  • you're right, they were late payments, as opposed to defaults per se. it can't be that bad, as alliance & leicester have just approved my application for a premier account, overdraft included. :T
  • Nice one matey, good for you!
