Amazon returns

I have three parcels to return to Amazon on Monday. The postman will pick them up, and he’ll bring the labels. Does it matter whether he puts the right label on each parcel? There’s no paperwork inside the parcels to say what the item is, or who is returning it.

Normally, they refund me within a few minutes of the parcel being collected, but the email always says that the refund is subject to the item reaching them.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

  • Just make sure the correct Return Authorisation Label is in the respective package.

Are all the return addresses the same?

There are no authorisation labels. The idea is that it doesn’t require a printer. There’s no paperwork in any of the parcels.

I'd be nervous about the wrong parcels being labelled in case the label itself has a tracking identifier. There are a few issues being mentioned on the warning and the consumer rights board on here already about Amazon returns and lack of an easy refund due to the wrong item being returned.

Then yes, absolutely they need to be on the right boxes. Each box will be scanned in when it reaches Amazon's returns and opened, if it does not have the correct items it in then it will be marked as an exception and things will at best get delayed and at worst denied.
  • Needs to be the right label, otherwise potentially a week or two down the line someone will open the parcels and they'll find the wrong item returned and you'll be recharged for the item.

That's the conclusion I came to, too. Hopefully, I'll be around when the postie comes, and I'll encourage him to use the correct label on each parcel. I've already written the RM code on the outside of each one.

  • i have done Amazon returns like this before, and it’s always worked smoothly. I think as long as the labels match the correct parcels, everything shuld be fine.

It’s great how quickly they process refunds these days

They've got new systems for returns, so I don't know definitively. The only thing Amazon will check is the barcode of the item or return label, so putting a note inside won't help.
There should be some form of barcode on the product that Amazon will check, it's either the product barcode or Amazon's own barcode. So they'll receive the parcel, scan the Royal Mail barcode and then scan the contents which should match the items to the refunds on your account. That's if they don't pre refund when the items get scanned in RM's system.

Just to follow up, I got postie to fix the correct label to each parcel. I got refunded a few minutes after the parcels were picked up. So far, a few days later, Amazon seems to be happy.

I don’t know what happens if the wrong label gets attached, but it seems not worth the risk.
