Removing old charge from inherited property

I am trying to get a house I inherited from my late mum and stepdad put into my name. I have been speaking to a solicitor and seem to be going around in circles. The issue is my father had a charge on the property when they separated in 1987, my dad confirms the charge should have been removed when he was brought out of his share and he has no charge against said property. I have some paperwork I found confirming this. Originally I was advised he would need to go and simply sign confirming the charge has been paid but now they saying something different. Does anyone have any knowledge regarding this? Kind regards

Do you mean the charge was in favour of your dad? If he’s still around then that isn’t a problem, he just needs to sign the discharge and you get it registered. Or is it more complicated than that?2

Hi thank you for the reply, yes apparently the charge was put against the property while he waited for the money from being brought out, but the charge was never removed. Fortunately I still have a good relationship with my dad and he has said he will sign confirming this.
