Hi, I’m new to this so please excuse me if I’m in the wrong place. Essentially I’m wondering if I should claim AA.I currently get £1515 a month made up from state pension of £1013, and private pension of £512.I qualify for and receive Council Tax discount - I don’ pay it or Council rent. But, I wonder if I would lose either or both of these if I were to be awarded AA.So, can anyone tell me, please, if it’s worth the bother of applying when any AA might mean I lose the Council Tax discount and end up having to pay it and the rent?
Thank you.0 -

AA only works in one direction to affect benefits - it either has no effect on what you get or it can actually lead to an increase in benefits. For example, someone on AA and who claims Pension Credit may get an increase of PC if living alone and no-one is claiming Carers Allowance for looking after them. Or if not receiving PC it can lead to some PC being paid (if claimed). One thing that won't happen is you losing your council tax rebate.

Thank you.I'm not sure why you have chosen to awaken this old thread rather than create a new one for yourself. I have asked it to be moved to a new thread. If you qualify/ get an award of AA, you will not lose council tax discount due to an AA award or housing benefit if that is what you are referring to by council rent. Whether or not you should claim AA depends on if you meet the criteria for AA or not.0
