Clawing cat

Hello all. I'm hoping that you lovely people can help with choosing a new living room suite when one of my cats is a nightmare with clawing the current one. Any suggestions for the best fabric in that situation?
Ideas to reduce her clawing the carpet would also be appreciated! Any time she's excited, that's her favourite way of showing it.
(I've already provided loads of more acceptable scratch opportunities.)

A cheap second hand one will do.
I have 5 cats, only one does this, he claws on EVERYTHING including metal table legs. I've given up and just put heavy throws all over everything. He manages to look totally innocent while he's doing it4 -
Anything with texture to it (canvas for example or large weave), our red sofa hasn't been touched although it does have a furry blanket on it. Our green sofa is 'attacked' by only one.To be fair our carpets get more abuse. Why use a scratch post or wooden floor when there's light grey carpet asking for scratches / hairballs.May you find your sister soon Helli.
Sleep well.2 -
We have a hand-me-down dfs sofa that seems to resist scratches and parkour better than any sofa I've seen - it looks like same cushion material as the 'ollie' range, but ours also has the same fabric on the arms. You know how they slightly change the same sofa over and over! The info on the ollie sofa suggests it might be 'chenille' fabric, but I'm not 100%
There's a cat currently snuggled on it - I'll try to look for a tag with fabric information and report back.
Edit - No tags with specifics on the fabric, I'm afraid.2 -
You say you have already provided loads of more acceptable scratch opportunities, but I wonder if this is your view, rather than your cat's!
It occured to me that you could, when you have been brave enough to order new sofas, cut some of the fabric from the old one and make some new scratching 'opportunities' for the cat. At least, you would know that they like the texture of the fabric! The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.2 -
