We did keep an overdraft facility after we'd paid it off & decided to remain debt-free, but only a small one of £200. The only time in 16 years we have dipped into it was years ago when we had a tight month. We had budgeted it as usual & expected to be able to manage but my partner's travel expenses did not get paid because someone forgot to approve them before they went on leave. We were glad of that modest overdraft facility to get a couple of late DDs paid. We have never had occasion to use it since then. Since becoming debt-free, I don't need to dip into it at all because I budget but I still keep it just in case. I had a mostly unofficial overdraft for 24 years back in the day 😱. So much easier to budget once it had been paid off & all our wages then became our own to allocate.

2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.
    2) To read 50 books (12/50) 3) The Re-Shrinking of Foxgloves 8.1kg/30kg
Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!
