Dashcam and Reverse parking camera question

Hi.

I'd like to buy a new ish young driver a Christmas gift of a fitted dash cam (forward and back).  I found out her vehicle doesn't have any parking sensors so I was wondering if it's possible to buy a device that incorporates the dash cam and reverse parking camera?

Would a budget of about £150 fitted be enough? (too much/too little)?

Thanks

Road Angel sell the Halo View 2 channel camera system.

The front camera clips over and effectively replaces the cars normal internal rear view mirror.
This is connected to a rear camera.

Normally it will record images from both the front and rear camera but when the car is in reverse, the rear camera displays it's image on the rear view mirror to act as a reversing camera.

It's about the price your after but would require fitting and wiring in, which will require an additional hard wiring kit.
I guess the fitting price will depend on where you want the rear camera, inside the rear window or outside on the tailgate. (outside tailgate would be ideal).

I think once fitting cost is added it takes me well over budget unfortunately.  But that Halo View 2 did look good

    That's the issue.
Your straight forward, front facing camera can be had within budget fitted but you don't need to hard wire them in, you can just plug it into the power socket, so can be sorted by yourself.

Anything else and there's a certain amount of fitting, routing of wires behind trim etc, plus the all singing device of front, rear and reserving camera is obviously more expensive, particularly for the reversing camera part as it needs a screen.

You might find a front and rear camera system without the reversing camera near your budget, fitted.
Nextbase make a few different front and rear kits.
But you'll not get a reversing camera as well.

Perhaps for birthday they can have some normal (beeping) parking sensors fitted.

Parking sensors are cheap to buy and an easy DIY job to install.  Plus my Garmin sat.nav. operates as a reversing camera when reverse gear is selected.  Both these work from the car reversing lights.

Could you tell me what model that Garmin is please?  Thanks

That's seems like a decent compromise.  The front/rear dash cams that plug directly into a cigarette power socket are perfectly fine?  Thanks
  • It's a Garmin drive 50 but I think most Garmin sat navs will work with the reversing camera kit.  I got it on ebay used but works well.

What is shown on the review mirror in normal driving then? I use my rear view mirror a lot more going forward than reversing?

You can switch the image on the mirror between front and back cameras, hence you can use it as a reversing cam, with just a finger swipe of the screen.
    Or
Turn the screen off and use the screen as a normal mirror yet still record front and back cameras.

While many cams with front and rear view  allow you to see the rear view image on your LCD screen, you need to bear in mind that you need quite a large image for it to be useful for parking.

Most dashcams just have a small LCD screen for reviewing footage after the event and not while driving.  The combination of their small size, and their position means they are not got viewing while the car is in motion.

I doubt you'll find something for 150 that can fo the job of a front and rear dashcam AND a useable parking cam.
