Ovo energy balance in the negative?

Hello,

My mother is with ovo energy and has solar panels (if that makes any difference lol). She doesn’t have a smart meter.

They have sent her this recently and we cannot make anything out of this at all. I’ve obviously suggested that she calls them up tomorrow and ask about this outrageous price, but I’m hoping this is just a glitch because they haven’t even got a meter reading?

Please advise? Thank you so much guys.

On the face of it, OVO think your mother has been paying far too little for far too long and has got herself into a £6k hole.
However, if they don't have any recent meter readings, they could well be very wrong.
Does she have a smart meter or a dumb one? If smart, is it correctly sending readings to OVO? If dumb, has she been providing readings on a regular basis?

How long is "a long time"? A year? Two? Three?
If £89 a month (~£1100 a year) was a reasonable figure back in 2020 when the Ofgem cap was close to £1000, and she's neither given meter readings nor changed her DD since then, it's quite possible for her to have underpaid thousands. On the other hand, if shh has a bill from 2023 based on actual meter readings she'd have to eg. be heating the entire street to have used that miuch energy.
