2017 Qashqai - best way to get a new key.

Hi.
My bro is a twit. I sourced him the bargain of the decade a couple of years ago, but it came with only one key. I've pestered him since to get a copy, until the inevitable happened - he lost the only one he had.
What's the best way to get (two) new keys? Via Nissan, or through a specialist?
The car is kept in Scotland, and only used a few times a year when he visits. So, until he next visits, he doesn't have access to the car - but it's available should anyone else need to (probably not even locked...)
I presume - hope - this can be done via the VIN and proof of ownership?
Cheers.

Nissan will do it with the VIN and proof of ownership, but take a seat with you and sit on it before they tell you how much it will cost. Nissan will probably claim that they need the car with them to code the new keys into the ECU.

There are locksmiths who can do the whole thing- Supply & cut a pair of keys and code them on the drive for less.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

    Thanks.
You reckon some key specialists can also do it from the VIN?

Possibly- if they have the Nissan database, more likely they will simply decode the lock and cut a key to fit it, then programme the ecu to accept the transponder in the new key.
They should be able to get the remote unlocking set up too.

I've contacted a few co's, and see what they say.
