Hi, Good morning can anyone help with this please? My Mum has just died a month ago and gave me the money before she died for her funeral. It was just for this purpose alone. It wasn't a personal gift for me.
I'm filling in the probate form online now and for the Net Value for probate the form says "To work this out, start with the gross value for probate you calculated above and take away the total value of any funeral expenses and all debts, owed by the person who died at the time of their death"
So what do I do please, she didn't really owe anything because she had paid upfront if you see what I mean. Can anyone advise please? Thank you in advance.

I'm sorry for your loss.
If she gave you the money just before she died then properly it needs to be added back into the estate and then deducted again as funeral expenses. So you can effectively ignore it, providing the sum she gave you was compeltely used for the funeral.1 -
The money should be included as an "asset" and also then deducted from the Net Value.
So if the total of her estate was say £100,000 and she gave you £10k, then the total assets is £110k, but then you deduct the £10k for the funeral so you get back to £100k.

Thank you for helping me with this. I struggled a bit with the form but fortunately probate has now been granted to me.So I paid £300 and an extra £1.50 for a further copy. It would have been about 9 grand if I'd have paid a solicitor.0
