My mothers estate was quite complicated (for me) so I employed an IFA to deal with 'my mothers affairs'. She had two trusts, shares, property, etc.
He came to my house, read through her documents, supplied IHT forms, recommended a solicitor for Probate, advised me what I could do to aid the IHT process, told me who to call, how to sell shares, untangled the trusts (I kept one, he liaised with the other to take out the money) and helped me complete my Self Assessment.
He visited my house about 4 - 5 times and charged £500.
No doubt some people could have done this on their own but I was happy to pay for peace of mind
