Transfer error between accounts.

I made an error in transferring funds between accounts. 
Rather than transfer it to another account, it went to my loan instead. 
They've told me i can't get it back because of rules and should be more careful in future. Surely this isn't right and should be able to transfer it straight back. It's my money just gone to a wrong account of mine. Is this really legal.

Yes it is legal. It will be classed as you having made an additional repayment on the loan, which means that you cannot get it back as a bank transfer, but it is not gone, it has repaid part of the loan.

Not anymore it isn't - now that it's back with the bank you owe them less of their money though.

Overpayments on loans are legal, yes.
