1st time buying and so disappointed

Options
So i agreed a price for a piece of kitchen equipment from the seller, she agreed to post it and i sent the money through. Then after a few days nothing, I sent contact emails which after a few days she complained i should be more patient as she'd had a family crisis. I said sorry about that and she'd send it out. Nothing further from her, won't answer my emails and i think blocked me. Facebook is so complicated to get answers to my queries, my fault i suppose sending money before delivery. I did manage to tick a box for scam, but Facebook haven't replied.

  • never new facebook marketplace you send payment i thought it was a local pickup cash only

i have bought lots of there but always went round and picked it up / i never have seen any payment options as i think but do not know that it is unregulated.

if you paid by card you can create a chargeback
    paypal claim for no delivery
only form of payments i have done for small items so do not know other options

Yes, Marketplace and by Bank Transfer. Unable to collect as the item was over 300mls away.Just frustrated that there doesn't seem to be a simple process to complain (i'm not computer or internet savvy). I did manage to click on a description of what the seller seemed to be ie Scam/Item bought not arrived. Not heard anything back from Facebook/Marketplace.

What sort of ‘kitchen equipment’ are we talking about here ? An electrical item at a bargain price (Ninja/Kitchen Aid or similar) ?

Not quite as simple as that unfortunately. The money on a push payment scam ‘might’ be reclaimable although an excess can be charged. However, if the bank gives a sufficient warning in advance, and for high street banks they tend to put a standard warning up when you set up a new transfer asking if you are aware of scams and actually know the person you are sending the money to then they don’t have to refund.

Incidentally and for future reference, FB is no longer just a local sales site, I used to sell loads on there, still do but to a lesser extent via marketplace or private interest /collectors groups. Probably sold well in excess of £1000 + in total, I always offer PayPal g and s , in fact some sites insist on it , the odd thing is I get a lot of people insist on bank transfer  to pay as they believe PayPal is dodgy and the bank will just hand back their money if they don’t get their goods.

    i never new that
most probably because i put in my town as location and then within 10 miles as i always shop for things like 8 x 4 insulation /furniture / etc etc on facebook marketplace which i pay for in cash

and selling wise i sold my van last week / 70 foot of wrought iron garden fencing / 60 foot of market stalls / ie large items on marketplace rather than ebay because only makes sense if i deliver or they are picked up as they are so large and heavy and i only accept cash.

i have an ebay and discogs shop to sell anything that is postable

did not know that about the bank transfer / i have been asked by branch staff do i know the recepiant on chaps payments i have made buying property but i am not sure if i have ever made a bank transfer-
