Using a computer with screen recorder tends to be the most reliable. Various attempt to create apps to download the files rather than stream & record but its a cat and mouse game as the streamers change code to defeat the apps and/or google etc block the sites distributing it

Why do you want to do this?

If it's streamed and you want to watch it again, then you download / stream again.

Recording programs that are not intended to be recorded is an infringement of copyright....

Technically yes. However for the services the OP mentioned (itvx, All4 etc) the programs could quite legitimately have been recorded when they were broadcast, using any TV that will record to USB, a HD recorder, a DVD recorder or even good old fashioned VHS tape! So it is a bit of a moot point for personal use.
  • There was a time when I'd suggest Snagit as a reasonably cheap but easy to use and feature heavy screen recorder, but just looked at their current pricing and it's ridiculous.
ShareX is a great free alternative and will do what the OP is looking for.

    Thanks everyone.
@DE_612183 -  to avoid adverts that make some programs unwatchable.

you could just pay for the ad-free versions...
  • I could, but at £60 or so a pop that would add up to a lot.  That's what they're working towards - their agenda is to get rid of freeview so everyone pays more or puts up with 5 minutes of adverts plus program trailers every 10 minutes.

Well I guess that programs have to be funded from somewhere - either a subscription ad free service ( a bit like BBC ) or advertisement revenue ( like ITV ) - what you seem to want is the programs for free.

As I said earlier, whilst they are still free to air (with ads) record them then and fast forward through the ads when you watch the recording. Perfectly legal!
