Our phone coop modem broke and our only option (out of contract)  seems to be to buy a new one for £100 as BT has not upgraded our street to fibre and there are no contracts available - not even with themselves !! - because of that. Mobile reception is very poor here, what do we do?

You could try asking around locally on social media, Freecycle, etc if anyone has a BT router lying around they're not using.

'Most' BT routers will automatically set themselves up to your own connection. If not then BT can assist. Most of the older ones will be free if you ask on your local Facebook group etc.
