Nissan diagnostic

Options
Hi, we had car issues at the weekend on the way from Essex to Devon with an amber light and car losing power on the many long hills in Devon with storm Bertie adding to the pain!
Before we set off for home we got Green flag to check it. They did a diagnostic and found 4 faults including limp mode and glow plugs.
The breakdown guy reset the amber light and we headed for home. The light came back on again ( I knew we couldn’t drive if it went red) and once we were on flatter land it ran fine.
We took it to our local Halfords the next day and they gave us a full diagnosis but couldn’t fix it saying the communication fault meant it needed to go to dealership.
I’ve rang Nissan and it’s booked in for Dec 12th as they have nothing earlier. The diagnosis cost is £250!!! Even though we’ve had 2 done already, how?!?!

  • I used to own a Nissan Qashqai ( Diesel type) which had a similar problem and ended up requiring a new sensor. The mechanic, who repaired it, advised me to always run on high grade fuel to avoid any further issue. Never happened again in 75,000 miles of use.

Who is charging £250? Or is this what you have paid so far?

I'm afraid the mistake was not getting it looked at before setting off back home & letting Green Flag clear the fault codes. Which were there for a reason & were not fixed.

You have to remember that each company has to run their own checks on the errors shown. So Halfords will charge you & Nissan will charge you.

Diagnostic is also work carried out. So will incur a charge. Same as any repairs required will be on top.

    Life in the slow lane
  • The codes are still there. It’s Nissan that’s charging £250 in December even though we have a full report detailing the faults from Halfords it’s covering the same ground three times.
it just feels like a rip off for something that seemed to take the other 2 very little time to do.

I don't think any self-respecting garage would take Halfords word for anything.
