Can anybody tell me in these circumstances who pays for this? I was told by the local council person who dealt with the rat by poison thatit is a environment issue and needs to be dealt with quickly,as another rat could come in our property once more through the avenue it came through this one time. We haven’t had a rat in our property all the time we have lived in this property that we own outright. I got hold of our buildings insurance, and our insurance company called out an inspector,as they needed to find out how the rat came inside our property. It was diagnised we had a broken manhole cover in our back yard, plus a broken pipe that was underneath our back yard concrete flooring was cracked. The next minute, somebody got onto my phone and was asking for payment for this inspector’s call-out - which I refused to pay the inspector’s call-out to our property, saying that the Insurance company should pay it under the terms of our insurance - as they Called out the inspector to get the survey done after I had informed them of the problem of the rat coming into our property and what the council person had said about where the rat had come into our property. Not heard a thing from our insurance since first getting hold of them regarding the inspector’s visit organised by our insurance firm - despite me ringing them twice. I only got a txt from them saying they have tried to get hold of me. Getting hold of me ringing my phone one ring only is NOT my way of waiting for a client to pick up the phone as I didn’t even get chance to answer their returning call and I was literally sitting next to my phone! You ring them back, and you are on a waiting list once more for the firm to ring you back or pick up the phone. Does anybody know what is the current position regarding something the Insurance company have organized regarding a claim? Are we liable for this initial survey organised by the insurance company in the first instance? In the past we had 1 claim only where our buildings insurance is concerned, but that was years ago,and was not anything to do with the problem we have now. Can anybody verify who pays what in this instance? We never paid for any inspector’s call-out fee last time we had a survey done on a buildings insurance claim and that was years ago. My husband has no actual documentation regarding when we first took out our buildings insurance. He doesn’t have any paperwork from this insurance company we have the insurance with I do not know the insurance details apart from the name of the firm and the account number - and I only know that because we had a notification about a refund that was going to be given through my husband’s bank account from our insurance firm in the post,so I have the verification of our buildings insurance details this way. Can I ask for a copy of the most recent buildings insurance policy to verify what is covered and what is not regarding costs of this claim? My husband has never asked for paperwork regarding paying the bills. Now I have had to ask each firm to start sending details of each bill because there is no actual paperwork to say about the costs of paying these bills - and if we are being overcharged for them because my husband just used to pay the bills automatically without questioning the cost each year! I also need to know what exactly my hubby has been paying for each and every year. I have started getting each firm to send full paperwork in the post, when we have a yearly renewal of anything, so I can track whether the bills my hubby is paying are not being overcharged to us in any way. At least this way,we can cut back on costs in our bills each week/month/year doing this. Thank for any help folks!

@scouserswimmer PLEASE edit and put in some paragraphs, it's very hard to read that wall of text.2

Very difficult to read all of that.
Equally, no one can read what your T&C's are for your insurance, and from what I think I read in that blast was that neither have you read them.
At a minimum I would be expecting there to be an excess to pay for the first part of any claim.
They called out an inspector on your behalf as part of the claim you instigated. The time to ask about any costs was then. All you can do now is check the T&C's to make sure those charges are allowable.1
