Residents only parking Cardiff

Hi all
I have gone through the forum and not found an appeal regarding incorrectly parking in residents only parking area.
Situation : I responded to an emergency concern with my daughter who is a student in Cardiff. We live 5 hour drive away. I arrived at 22:30. Residents parking starts at 0800 until 2200. My daughter has been refused visitor parking through her letting agent.
I saw 0900 as it was dark and I was panicked. I clearly made an error however, the traffic warden told me to appeal it.
Is this what we would call a legitimate parking ticket? Should I just pay it?
I wont be challenging per se but I will explain my situation and pray for compassion. I would appreciate any help here.

We specialise in dealing with people who have received parking charge notices from unregulated private parking companies on this forum, so you would be better taking this over to our friends on the Free Traffic Legal Advice website.
