    I thought if a deal was carried out in someone’s home there should be days of grace for me to cancel.
    Yes, there is - as I said in my first post.    14 days to be precise.  But if they fail to provide you with the requisite information in a permanent format (i.e. paper) then it's actually 1 year and 14 days.

    However, the exact length is irrelevant because you asked to cancel on the very same day.

    This sales person and, probably, the company behind them, are *utterly* in the wrong here.  

    Have you actually spoken to the company though?  I mean - someone else at the company other than the salesman, or have you only spoken to the salesman?
