Hi Everyone, I'm going to sell my house after Christmas and after buying my house in 2017, I changed my name due to a divorce. I did this by a Change of Name deed through a solicitor. I called the Land registry last week who told me to fill in form AP1 and that it was free to change my name. They are now saying I should also fill in ID1 or ID3 both of which need your identity verifying so will cost me. Can I just leave this until I find a buyer and do it as part of the sale paperwork? Thanks in advance.
I would suggest you do not try to meddle with the title at all unless you get legal advice that it's necessary. All you need to get through the sale is evidence that you are both Ms Jones and Mrs Smith, I'm not aware of any principle that you need to do an intermediate change of name at the Land Registry.
