Pests

Options
Hi all,

moved into a property back in the summer and we seem to have an issue with some form of noisy rodents in the loft - we have set traps and will hopefully get up there to block accesses however how do we block gaps between brickwork and the roof!? so where you can see daylight - attached picture probably easier than explaining lol.

thanks

Do you know what pests they are? If they are squirrels, then you don't want them getting in through the roof. Rats and mice probably don't climb quite as much, although they probably can. You are best seeking the advice of a pest control expert as they don't just try and kill the pest but help you to prevent re-infestation. In my experience, your local council is the best place to go for pest control services, although it can obviously vary from area to area.
  • thank you - unsure of what the pest is hence we have a camera up their currently. our council don’t help with pests so we have enquired with a few experts but they are charging quite a bit hence we were going to attempt it ourselves hmm il discuss with partner later.

We had squirrels in the loft in my previous property last year. Initially assumed it was rats or mice. They were entering through a small hole just below the eaves in a small Victorian terrace that was probably there since before I had moved in.

The pest control expert caught (killed 4 in the space of about 2 weeks) before we sealed up the hole. The squirrels were quite noisy - lots of scratching and you could hear them scampering about - but were difficult for us to spot because the loft wasn’t the most accessible and also had a load of insulation. Just mentioning squirrels as it wasn’t our first thought. Peanut butter or chocolate seemed to be effective.
