Streaming – unavoidable adverts make US the product – do you agree ?

Broadcasters and advertisers must love streaming, because now you are forced to watch adverts. Lots of them. ( Have you tried to watch ‘u’ or my5 ? ) Unless of course you pay – so either way it’s not free.
It’s no coincidence that you can’t record streaming with a recorder attached to the TV - even though this must be technically possible – because of deliberately imposed preventative measures. And creating a computer file to play is a big hassle. ( Unless you know an easier way? ) This is why you can’t buy a recorder ( except for Manhattan ).
I think in time they will ensure that freeview disappears so it’s then all sewn up apart from the BBC. And why do you think we’re being gaslit to complain about the licence fee ?
So is on-demand tv that wonderful after all ?

If you watch ITV live, you have to have the adverts ( whether you watch them or not is a different matter) and when you watch catch up on ITVX you have the same. Not sure why that is a problem?
Interesting we have a HDD recorder and I did not know you could not record catch up/streaming programmes, only normal TV.
I think you have a point otherwise. A lot of the negative publicity about the BBC comes from parts of the media with an agenda to try and push it down for their own commercial interests.0 -
yes with Freeview and HDD recorder you can fast forward over the ads and always have done
with streaming you can't and that is why I don't use it0 -
So who do you think is paying for these streaming services if it's not the viewers?Ultimately, you either have to pay for the service or put up with the adverts. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.1 -
Daughters TV/DVD/USB all in one records TV just fine. Yes there are adverts but because it records to USB media so pop it into the PC and
a couple of minutes work and the adverts are gone or just skip/fast forward when playing them back.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
@forgotmyname. Hi. I'm intrigued. Would you mind telling me exactly how your daughter records ITVx, All4 etc ?@Abermarle. Hi. The difference is you can record ITV but not ITVx. And ITVx has intolerably long ad breaks.@Ectophile and @km1500. Hi. Exactly my point. When freeview diminishes in extent and quality we'll be left with paying at least £60 a pop for each streaming service to get our favourites, dwarfing the licence fee.0

@jon81uk. Hi. Again, that's my point. We didn't used to "pay for the service", because before you could have everything ad-free without paying by using a recorder. As they gradually transfer content to streaming - then either remove freeview or leave it with nothing worth watching - they have then monetised your viewing, either through HAVING to watch ads, or paying - because they have made it so you can't record the streaming. Remember, that will be £72 or whatever for every extra channel you want. Why do you think they broadcast only one episode of a drama series on 4 or more4, for example ? I bet soon you'll have one episode on itv, rest on itvx, one on 5, rest on my5, etc and we'll be left with rubbish on the main channels too. So we'll end up paying several subscriptions.

It seems to record whatever is on the screen, records to the USB memory stick. Sadly we had to take one back that had even better recording
options because it had the wrong firmware installed. No way to access the inbuilt DVD player, not sure how they left the factory like that.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
