HSBC problem with opening an account, bad customer service

I tried for a student account at the end of October, was turned down but offered a basic account which I took as my current bank's nearest branch was about 300 miles away.
Anyway I paid and got my credit reports from the 3 agencies, and I had no defaults, no late payments, and never been overdrawn.
I did add myself to the electorial roll though.
I then reapplied at the weekend for a normal current account(as I dont want an overdraft) I was accepted and even offered a credit card!
Went into branch today to show id and the woman who dealt with it was rude imo.
She asked me why I wanted a current account, and if I was a student where was my money going as it wasnt being paid into this account. I told her my situation and she then asked me more questions.
She then said why dont you want a student account, I said I dont want or need an overdraft, and she told me she was going to see her manager, and she went away, came back 10 minutes later and refused to let me finish opening my new account spouting nonsense that a new account couldnt be opened as I already have a basic account and people are only allowed 1 account and I have to wait until the middle of March to have an account review to upgrade my account.
I then said why was I accepted online plus why does she say people are only allowed 1 account and she said its their rules even when I said my uncle has 2 accounts she called me wrong in a stoppy tone of voice.

HSBC are the worst i have found, both for crap staff and services. I'm a mature student and i went to have my personal account changed into a student account. She went through everything and just before she wanted me to sign i asked her about an overdraft facility. She said i couldn't have one because there is one on my joint account because of my credit score, but i could transfer over some of the overdraft (!!!!!!?) I refused. until i gave up work to go to uni i was earning a good wage and was never overdrawn on either account (had both for a long time), i have a credit card i use every so often and pay off straight away. I went to RBS and they opened me an account with a 1k ovedraft no questions asked. HSBC are full of !!!!!!, i closed all my accounts and moved everything over to RBS, HSBC aren't worth the effort.0

hsbc...lies...lies...and more lies....told my daughter the same thing about multiple a/cs....said she couldn't have an HSBC a/c if she held an a/c anywhere else....quoted "money laundering" etc etc....this was 4 years ago....my daughter chose them because they have a few branches in Northern Ireland as well as UK ( it was a UK uni she was going to )...eventually got signed up after lots of hassle...at that time she should have got a free "rail card"....but they botched up so much they claimed it was after the closing date....Had enough at that stage....strongly worded letter of complaint and basically told them about the lies....it wasn't illegal to have more than one a/c etc....ineptitude of staff etc.....result....no rail card but an apology to me and my daughter and credited her a/c with £100...she has banked with them ever since...and to be fair....they have been pretty good with her a/c....apart from one mishap with her credit card being sent to the wrong address....3 months after she notified them....but she's still with them and as happy as probably any other bank would have made her....but HSBC's attitude seems to be..."we want your business....ALL your business....we want total control over your finances"...just for the record....my daughter still has her a/c in the A & L...
complain...but make sure you've kept a record of everything said and done....I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0
