i purchased a divan base mattress and headboard total sale £2619 from Bensons the divan is broken i have contacted bensons under the 5 year guarantee they have responded to say that the divan is no longer manufactured and as they cant colour match they will give me a credit of £85 they say that has the divan base was heavily discounted that's all they will offer my argument is i went into the shop saw the base headboard and mattress and purchased them i cannot replace the divan for £85 the original price before discount was £350 
what can i do i purchased through a finance company the finance has been paid

Well for any meaning full advice some timelines of purchase etc & how paid?

Also whether you bought a package, or three separate items, ie base, headboard and mattress as it now seems common to buy each individually as mattresses are replaced more often than headboards or bases.

the guarantee is 5 years purchased individually but all at the same time  purchased through finance approximately 18 months ago

The guarantee will depend upon the terms of the guarantee and so long as they abide by that then that’s fair enough, however from a consumer rights point of view you may argue the base was not of satisfactory quality and if they can’t repair/replace you will exercise the final right to reject everything (assuming ordered together).

You could either actually do that or use it as a bluff for better than £85.*

Pragmatically, these bases are usually some cheap wood with a bit of material stapled to it, is a repair by yourself feasible and ask them for the cost of that?

*Just to note as over 6 months burden of proof lies with yourself (to show a “fault” rather than misuse,etc) and they can reduce the refund to reflect usage (typically time owned vs lifespan which on a mattress should be at least 8 years, base debatable, headboard probably forever, maybe match the 8 years on the mattress) so at least around a £2127 refund. 

If bluffing they may cave without the proof.
