Avoid auto renew

I couldn't find where to stop the auto renewal for my car insurance so changed my "need" to be max miles on business and personal... Something the company couldn't offer and boom "sorry we can't cover you, the policy will not renew"

That sounds a little bit risky.
It sounds like you've told your current insurer that your business/personal mileage for next year will be x.
Presumably you've also been getting quotes (through comparison sites and/or elsewhere), but saying your business/personal mileage for next year will be y.
If those quotes have come come from different brands/companies in the same group, their systems might notice the inconsistency and flag it as a possible attempt at fraud.

Never found any reputable insurance company that I couldn't stop the auto renewal, usually on line, via chat or rarely by phoning them.
All the complaints I tend to see are from people who have used bottom dwelling insurers where they have chased the bottom price.0 -
Which mystery uncontactable insurer are you talking about, OP?0

Also how did you contact them to change your needs?0

I have contacted insurance companies by phone and made a note of whomever I'm talking to along with the date and time and have said I didn't want autorenewal. Sometimes they go ahead and autorenew anyways. If I don't like the price or have already arranged cover elsewhere (more likely) I ring the company again and get them to do a full refund (without any charges) based on the fact that they haven't accepted my instructions as given to "X" on "date" and "time".I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards.
