You need a HD satellite receiver, the Sky+ box isn't HD capable.

It's a bit like trying to get your CD player to play a DVD, you can't. You need the right box.

HD channels broadcast in MPEG4 AVC, standard channels are MPEG2 (like the standard used on DVDs) HD requires a box that can handle MPEG4.

You can get a Sky HD box at the moment for £149 + £30 install if you go via an independent satellite equipment installer who are Authorised Sky Agents.

If you don't pay the £10 HD subscription you get the mentioned free HD channels.

Sky HD boxes were dearer when I went HD satellite, so picked up a non-Sky HD box for £62 - this doesn't have the recording function of the SkyHD box and will only pick up the Free To Air channels, but was fine for me.
