I oversaw the planting and did some myself and am the pleasant kind of tired that comes from a job well done. Glad I have my home and garden to myself tomorrow. I need to work out what else to get rid of as I didn't tidy before they came and was quite shocked at how much unnecessary stuff I'd kept hold of (excess plant pots etc). I will need to decide what to do with all my excess planters though - but some I spent £25-30 on each only this summer so I'm reluctant to let them go for free unless it is to family - but at the same time I know if I keep them I'll refill them and that may not be the best plan - given my high spend on the garden this year - and I don't want to restart that cycle!
Most of my plants are structural or clump forming. I'm sure there was helenium in there somewhere too... I'm hoping that once I get some bark in - that it will be a 'set and forget' type garden as the structure will be there and overtime things will spread. I will see what seed I still have that I could perhaps scatter to make up for some of the over-enthusiastic 'weeding' by one of the guys.
I'm keeping a couple of tall laurels I bought in pots - but will repot one into a bigger pot. I didn't put the raised bed in a horseshoe at the back as I wanted more flexibility on the left side. I have some blue raised beds which have a shelf underneath that I'll put back behind the outdoor sofa once the tarmac has set.
They still need to add some wood to my fence to make it more structurally sound which they've promised to do Monday - and then cement back in some slabs that ran along the side of the pavers before they removed them to fit the bricks. The shed is now too low as they decided at an earlier point that it was too heavy to lift and so they didn't dig down. The door is therefore catching / blocked by their bricks - but they've said they'll jemmy it up somehow on Monday and then put tarmac underneath it so it's the right level. They've promised to empty it for me. I'm not going to get the socket that I wanted - so will need to sort that with an electrician at some point. But it's getting there.
I've also been doing little bits of art this week. Thankfully I'm a lot less dizzy than I was but I still have moments (low folate). My sleep is improving and I've stopped taking the extra med as it was making me feel too tired during the day. Will see how I go on and use it sparingly if needed moving forward. I didn't get around to talking to my GP this week but generally feel I'm doing better. I hate having workmen here - but it does enforce a discipline of getting up at a similar time every day which is then helping my sleep I think.
DD's BF has promised to come Tuesday to help clean and do bits - and then they are both coming Thursday to move stuff ready for the asbestos removal Friday. It's all go!!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I woke up early from a nightmare.
I also have lots of bruises decorating both legs - as when I'm hyper-focused e.g. on the garden - I ignore or don't notice all the bumps and scrapes I get along the way. Although I did spend my whole day saying oops - especially when I trod in cement etc - and told the workmen my whole life was 'oops' and in the end they started laughing because they could hear / see that for themselves.. Glad the weather was kind yesterday as it was so much easier with it being clear and bright. It watered all my plants in for me overnight. The rain should clear in a few hours.
I'm going to make some art today and then hopefully go to a garden centre for Sunday lunch. I'll see if they have any more Xmas roses or cyclamen. I need to return about £20 of stuff to the Range preferably without buying more. I also need to go to the sofa place and reclaim my £120. If I get chance I also need to look for jewellery for my Mum for Xmas. I only need to buy for my Dad now - everyone else is getting £ or hopefully things I already have. Perhaps a few wrap ups.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Sorry to hear about the nightmare. Is something worrying you or is it it just the overstimulation of the workmen being around so much?Loving all the garden updates and how much progress you and your team have made in executing your mission 😊
Enjoy the art session and the lunch today 😊

Your garden will be a lovely vision come spring how exciting - sounds like so much work though
a relaxing day of art would be good for youDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Garden sounds amazing SH! Well worth it to get it done (though I feel your pain on paying out money, I'm expecting to pay for the last bit of the work on my place next week and my savings will look sadly depleted / no longer be artificially inflated by money saved for work depending on pov). It will be so good to have it all done after all the planning and thinking about itDebt at LBM (Dec 2018): £23,167

Wow to the garden sounds like those combinations will bri g you interest all year round. It’s ok to have some things in pots but so much easier to have them in the ground. Enjoy and also well done on the Xmas shopping I’ve bought nothing yet.Save £12k in 25 No 49

You have reminded me I need to get my Christmas list sorted, and also remind MrEH about his too! Mum has already let us have hers, plus I'm going to get her a planted pot from her favourite garden centre as well. I've got some oddments for MrEH but still got plenty to sort!
Your garden sounds fabulous. Can you ot hold on to the planters with a view to refilling them over time with self-seeded plant babies/cuttings and splitting up of various things as they expand?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
