They shouldn’t have needed to ask about other savings you should be automatically declaring them when you claimed universal credit your declaration at the start confirms the amount you declare you hold and you are asked to report changes to this. Yes it might be inconvenient to you now but you should have been transparent from the claim.0

With UC you only have to declare capital over £6k as then and only then benefit is reduced. What they might want you to do is different to what you legally have to do.

I think the 'report any changes' is where confusion sets in and inconsistent responses when people ask the front line staff doesn't help. I confirmed when we had our 'random' check to see if our payments were correct if there was any need to continually give updated savings figures below £6k and they said not. They also said there was no need to update them on where 'savings' are held unless it is regarding the intended account for receiving UC payments.
These checks are being carried out to check identity and indeed whether savings declared is or has been materially different to that declared... or if there has been suspicious transactions (that may imply hiding or giving away money for example)."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0 -

I can go with premium bonds being savings, but many will never twig on that. paypal many only ever use for buying goods & have no funds stored.
Both easily forgotten about in all the other stuff required when applying.Life in the slow lane0
