Tesco Clubcard CC

Options
Afternoon all,

Just a curiosity here, but I'm wondering how the whole points thing works. I wondered if anyone knows and/or has experience with this card.

My question is: If I were to spend, say, £200 on something using this card, would I have to wait until the statement is produced in order to get clubcard points? If I were to spend £200, let the balance go on the card, then pay it off immediately, would there be no points?

Hopefully I've worded my question in a way that can be understood.

Thanks 🙂

I use my Tesco CC for pretty much everything  and pay it off completely each month then just leave the points to add up and use the vouchers. I now have about £32 in Clubcard coupons which I will use for a "basics" shop (bleach/washing powder.some tinned items etc.) in January. I don't actually shop in Tesco very much - just the Tesco Express round the corner from me once or twice a week for bread and milk, but use it mainly for for my food deliveries from another supermarket and any/all purchases - sort of like a debit card (but no cash withdrawals!). I'm not really a fan of Tesco food and their prices (hence why I use other supermarkets) but It's ok for the generic stuff as mentioned before so will stock up - I'll have to  make it up to the minimum spend (£40) but that little stock-up will then last me a few months. So the points are added at point of purchase (I believe) and it will make no difference if you pay it off straight away.

Those vouchers are worth £64 on Clubcard Rewards - are you sure there's no better redemption available for you?

(Some of those deals are better value than others - I tend to do Hotels.com which I see as getting about 180% of my vouchers value, since it's easy enough to get around 10% off the rates you find on there).

No - I did use them for things like that in the past but am fairly housebound now due to age and health conditions. I am quite a low spender these days but just use it as a) I still have a decent credit limit on the card so could use it for emergencies, and b) just see it as an extra perk on what I would normally be spending anyway rather than using it specifically for money-saving.

Thanks. I understand you use the card then pay it off each month, but when specifically? Do you pay it off after the statement is generated or do you pay it off as soon as the spending balance hits the card (as seen on the app)? In either case, do you still receive the points?

You still get the points when ever you pay the credit card off.  My partner and I use a Tescos card for almost everything.  We rack up considerable sums in vouchers which we then spend.  Also useful if you use Tesco Mobile as you can pay your bill with vouchers.

    Kind Regards,

I pay it off in full after I get the paper statement through the post.

I get the points as a voucher every 3 months.

It's not much of an incentive but I stick with it as the card seems quite reliable. Hope that continues now it's gone to Barclaycard
  • My experience is that the points are credited to your Clubcard account up to a week after the transaction appears as approved on the CC statement. I do not - however - watch it that closely to be 100% certain.
  • Lovely, thanks very much. You've answered my question :)
