Sky penalty

Due to unforeseen circumstances thinking of cancelling sky contract 24 months contract and 21 months remaining. The elderly person is sick and will not be able to watch sky. Guess penalty will be too high to cancel.

There will not be a penalty as such, they will just be required to pay the remaining term of the contract, so not worth cancelling. They may choose to allow cancellation without paying off thr remaining contract, but I would be surprised.

Normally for Sky TV your contract end date cannot be before the end of your minimum term. 

Termination charges are documented here:

https://www.sky.com/help/articles/charges-for-ending-your-sky-contract-early# - "To end your contract, you’ll need to give us at least 31 days’ notice, which can’t end before your minimum term finishes. The early termination charges below are only payable if we [Sky] end the relevant TV contract within your minimum term because you’ve breached your terms and conditions."

Not necessarily.  I had a friend who had just entered a 2 year contract with Sky, and within 2 months got a place in sheltered accomodation where Sky was unavailable.  A phone call to Sky was made and they allowed her to leave the contract without penalty.  So try not to be too hard on Sky.

I phoned sky and was told there will be no penalty as he might need to go in a care home.

Asa above a friend passed from cancer. His Sky contract was closed with no penalty.
