MSE Cheap Energy Club shows conflicting savings
Done a comparison using the Cheap Energy Club but the results are all over the place, or my head is. Below are the exact results shown for the top 1yr fixed tariffs-
Supplier Reduction Mthly DD
EDF Simply Fixed 1Yr Jan26 = £116 -6% less than current -/- Est £117
The 18mth + 2yr tariffs are a mess also, as are the 1yr ones with a lower percentage of savings.
I mean how can a higher % reduction save you less in £'s, not to mention the varying DD's.
What's going on with the thing? It obviously can't be trusted with results like this & I'm very surprised to see this on MSE.

I suspect it's also OOD, yesterday when I clicked to change the tariff had been withdrawn despite me getting it as an optionHopefully once the new price cap has settled, it will also settleEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

Problem with showing messed up savings is that many people who didn't or weren't able to fix last time will be looking for a better deal now, unless you meant OLD (on line demand) & to just give it a few days for the effects of the new cap announcement to settle because excessive online demand shouldn't mess up the results!
They should really suspend it until it's sorted to ensure no one ends up worse off as not everyone's savvy when it comes to using comparison sites. It makes you wonder if they actually monitor for errors as it doesn't instil any confidence when you see this happening, I'll refresh shortly to see if things have improved & if not I'll look for a contact link to inform them so it can be looked into.
I'll also check the other comparison sites when time allows to see how they stack up, hopefully they'll not have conflicting results.
Thanks.

AH-HA, I now know what's going on & it's a daft & dodgy way of doing things in my opinion as it only confuses the results. They include 'Cashback amounts' in some of their calculations were it's available. So unless you filter cashback out, but why would you, I mean seriously they then also show those same tariffs again but without cashback & mixed in with the results further down as they're obviously sorted by % of saving.
So this accounts for the £20 variance in the 2 identical fixes shown here.
EDF Simply Fix 1yr Jan26 = £116 saving (-6%) - DD = £117 - £1,405yr + £20 cashback - £50 Exit Fee
EDF Simply Fix 1yr Jan26 = £ 96 saving (-6%) - DD = £117 - £1,405yr + £0 cashback - £0 Exit Fee
So same saving, same for DD & yearly cost, but you get an extra £20 saving shown on the first because of cashback, same thing for several others included in the results.
JUST ADD A NOTE THAT CASHBACKS AVAILABLE ON THE QUOTE IT'S SELF, DON'T MESS UP THE RESULTS BY INCLUDING IT IN THE MAIN CALCULATION THEN DUPLICATING THEM BUT WITH DIFFERING SAVINGS SHOWN, SURELY THAT'S CLEARER FOR ALL. Sorry for shoutingbut folk surely aren't going to turn their noses up at £20 but need to firstly see like for like savings shown, against their current tariff costs, the cashback is just a very nice bonus on top of those.
They fail to highlight this cashback gubbins on the main results page (at the top in a clearly highlighted message), so you only discover the reason for conflicting results after clicking on the little '?' in the options column to read the pop up message (copied here if anyone wants a read)-If you can switch via Cheap Energy Club we'll pay you £20 cashback (£10 for single fuels) – essentially we share the referral fee we get, to encourage you to switch! Factoring in the cashback can change which is your cheapest deal, so we've designed a sort option to help you see this.So you have two choices here – you can sort by your biggest saving including or excluding cashback. If you've chosen 'including cashback', we'll order results using the total from the tariff saving + any Cheap Energy Club cashback (if available). If you've chosen 'excluding cashback', we'll order by tariff savings only.Saving this preference will impact your savings trigger. For more on this, see our FAQs page0
