Time to repair and repaint bumper

Options
Hello,

I'm hoping someone can shed some light on the following:
Ford C-Max's rear bumper got deep scratches on the corner while parked. Estimate of repair is to strip, repair, repaint, and refit bumper and they are telling me that they estimate it will take 10 working days...

I have no idea (hence my question) but that sounds like an awfully long time. What do you think?

Thanks!

    Is the quote reasonable?
I don't imagine they will be working non stop for 10 days but maybe things have to be left for a few days in between.
  • Quotes is £300 for labour so, I suppose, reasonable. It's the overall duration that seems very long to me.
  • Many garages/ workshops like to have jobs they can leave and come back too. This cuts down of them having to stand around waiting for the next job to come in.
    Let's Be Careful Out There
  • It might not be 10 days, but they will not want to say maybe 5 and then it turns into a rush job or they take 7 days and you complain about extra time taken.

Take it off, rub it down and fill, let filler dry, rub it down and fill again, let filler dry, paint, let paint dry, paint again, let paint dry, polish, refit. As they are taking it off perhaps they realise it may need some strengthening from behind, which takes time, all fitted in between other bigger jobs.

    Or they may be lazy!

Having the car 2 weeks to do that seems crazy.

I got the rear quarter panel (nasty dent over the wheel arch) and back bumper painted and the car was in and out in 3 days.

Pricewise it doesnt sound too far away.  You might be able to get it done for £200-£250 if you shop around though.

That seems ridiculous timing. Had to have rear bumper and bonnet resprayed. Dropped off on Monday and ready to collect Thursday lunchtime. Total cost for both was £400
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I think I'd give 'em a call and ask. Folks here can only guess...

e.g. A place that I use has 5 guys in the workshop, but only one of them does paint/bodywork. If he has a few days off...

then dont book cars in until he returns.

Bizarre having a car sitting for 2 weeks for a 3 day job.

I've repaired our boys Fiesta a few times with panels from a company call "Painted Car Panels".

You select the part you want, usually bumper covers and wings, give them the paint code and pay them.
They then paint a new panel and post it out to you.

They don't have all the panels lists, only what they have done in the past, so it's worth contacting them for a panel/price if you want one not listed on their site.

The panels are generally pattern parts rather than genuine manufacturer parts but the same ones used for insurance work and the ones I've used fitted perfectly.

Colour match has been excellent as well.
