i have 2 old style electric meters,(exotic meters?)
, 2x standing charges + useage,
im in a flat with storage heaters,
im on e-on next flex for temporary time,
most companies seem to not be able to give a tarrif deal,

does anybody have experience of staying with these meters or how about changing to a smart meter?
have most companies put the standing charge at about the same rate now?
need to do better

Presumably you're not on Economy 7 but on E10 or similar?  That's often more suitable for older storage heaters which by today's standards were too small and not sufficiently insulated.  It didn't matter back in the 70s when electricity was cheap as chips.  They relied on being topped up in the afternoon and late evening.
Beware that changing to a smart meter is likely to mean the only two-rate tariff you'll be offered will be E7, or at best E9.  That could lead to cool afternoons and chilly evenings.
Tomato are terribly cheap, but if you read the threads on this forum it seems they are terrible but cheap...

Be aware that if you have two meters they will disconnect the supply on one of them when they put the new smart meter in.  Therefore you need to make sure all your appliances are switched to the one supply.  You may also need a timer in the circuit otherwise your storage heaters will be drawing power 24 hours from that one meter.

    Kind Regards,

    Bill

    thanks for replying.
been a bit cold inside last few days,  so extra layers are on,
trying to figure out the heaters and settings, got to wait till weekend to try it now,
quicker to use a bar heater but that drinks the power,

ive heard smart meters stories so am waiting for a bill to check costs first
