Refused travel insurance because I tried to add HRT

After Martin's appearance on This Morning on 29 Oct 2024 we contacted our travel insurer Admiral to add the fact that I am taking HRT. We used the online tool to do this: there is a drop down menu which includes HRT Hormone Replacement Therepy We clicked on this and the result was "we can no longer insure this person". My husband phoned and was told that its not a medical condition, it doesn't need to be declared and that I was still covered. The agent confirmed this in writing but then why is it in the drop down menu so now I'm not sure whether I'm covered or not.
This is completely outrageous, both the need to declare it - do you need to declare contraception, viagra? - but also being declined cover because of it.
We're querying this with Admiral. Given that insurers try to wriggle out all the time suggest anyone taking HRT who thinks they have travel insurance cover has a look into this as well.

Didn’t make any difference to my travel insurance with Staysure. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
I don't understand why the OP thinks having to declare HRT is outrageous. It is a medical treatment. I have to declare High Blood Pressure because I take medication for it.

They've told you that you are covered and confirmed in writing. What's the query?0

If they have confirmed in writing that you are covered and that your policy is still valid then that trumps any messages that might have flashed up on the website, so you can be sure that you are covered.0

Wouldn't have to declare high blood pressure if you where insured through Lloyds current account.Approx 33% of adults have high blood pressure half which are not diagnosedTELLIT01 said:I don't understand why the OP thinks having to declare HRT is outrageous. HRT would be covered without having to declare it as well0 -
I didn't report menopause and hrt along with my multiple other medical conditions because I don't consider it a medical problem, it's a normal aging process that nearly all women go through, plus non of the questions asked about it.1

Menopause is natural/normal aging and if you dont take any medication for it wouldn't need to declare it. Insurers ask for anything you are taking prescription medicine for, seen a doctor/medical professional about or suffered symptoms of. On the basis you are taking a prescription medicine it has to be declared and failure to do so could invalidate any claim irrespective if related to health or not. Taking medication is not part of a "natural" process.marcia_ said:I didn't report menopause and hrt along with my multiple other medical conditions because I don't consider it a medical problem, it's a normal aging process that nearly all women go through, plus non of the questions asked about it.
Doing a quote online Admiral accept HRT with no loading so odd they are marking you as uninsurable. That said, I think "HRT" is a really bad option to choose because those with low any hormone (thyroxine, insulin, somatotropin, testosterone) will all be prescribed hormone replacement therapy and so could also technically select HRT and given there is no followup questions you could understand that they dont like something that doesn't differentiate between a unstable type 1 diabetic and a person wanting support through the change.Genghissian said:After Martin's appearance on This Morning on 29 Oct 2024 we contacted our travel insurer Admiral to add the fact that I am taking HRT. Have you tried declaring it as the actual condition? Which I assume you're taking it for menopause. Equally doing a dummy quote it accepts and doesn't load the premium.1 -
Surely it depends on the reason why you are on HRT. Seems odd to not ask that.

Well what they actually ask is "what condition" and so "HRT" is an odd answer to give as its treatment not a condition, can't see any other case where you can answer with a treatment rather than a condition. So in principle they are asking the reason for the HRT for which "menopause" is probably the most common answer but they accept HRT which is a very imprecise answer given there are many hormones that you can have replacement treatment for if you produce too little of it yourself.ThorOdinson said:Surely it depends on the reason why you are on HRT.
