D & E - I just don't have time to wait for lentils to grow (can you grow them in England?), but we do grow as much veg as we can.
I do use sauces such as Korma paste and Hoi Sin.
I would never even consider buying a microwave meal - these machines are only good for defrosting and part doing baked pots.
Under no circumstances would I EVER buy a ready made pasta sauce!0 -
I'd love to know the breakdown of these results by gender and age. . . I reckon I could predict the results but would be fascinated to see if my guess was right0

1 2 and 3 are definitely lazy! 4 and 5 are cooking. You can't always make sauces, stocks, gravies from scratch - you'd have no time left to browse the MSE forums!!Jan 2015 Grocery Challenge £185.10/£5000

Couldn't find a sub zero vote for 'deciding what to defrost from the freezer' :rotfl: ! sooo shoot me down
. 1 and 2 - possibly  ... 3,4 and 5 are beyond my sight line.

Why spend more on nothing but fat and chemicals when you can reproduce better tasting, healthier food at home. Two tins of chopped tomatoes, with dried basil, oregano and a bit of seasoning produces twice as much sauce for speg bol than its mega bucks plastic tasting prepacked stuff. Freeze all your stocks for use in gravies and soups, saves on the stock cubes! Still got some pumpkin in my freezer from haloween!
Can't u just tell i'm living on a tight budget.
Get yourself a good students cookbook from Amazon or ebay, eg
The essential student cookbook by cas clarke or Hard up n Hungry by Betsy Bell n yer well away!:j0 -
If it started off cold, ends up hot and prevents starvation it is cooking!0

I guess I am old fashioned because I homecook just about everything.OK I am now retired & you might say that I have the time but I have always preferred the taste of home made.I make my own bread,biscuits,pasta,ice-cream,soups,sauces,cakes etc.Although I live alone I still enjoy a home cooked roast every weekend & plate up an identical meal for Sunday(which I heat up in the microwave) & quite often I enjoy the Sunday meal more than the Sat. meal because I have not had to cook it,if you see what I mean.I bought a very small joint of half a lamb shoulder this week for just £1.42 from Morrisons so my weekend meal will be a bargain. If only cookery lessons would be reintroduced into the school curriculum perhaps our youngsters would be more inclined to have a go?0

That's one way of looking at it! :rotfl:
Wouldn't say the first 3 are cooking myself.0 -
you could go for an F
which means you have to grow the food first ie For shepards pie you have to grow your own tat's and rear your own lamb... then butcher it then mince it yourself...
Not quite there yet but the OH has spent the afternoon plucking and gutting a brace of pheasant that we get from a friendly gamekeeper and we have several humanely trapped rabbits in the freezer that we clean ourselves. No, we're not in deepest countryside but we know people who are and it's much cheaper than the plastic covered meat in the supermarkets! We also keep a couple of geese in our garden so we have dozens of eggs five months of the year and try to do without for the other seven!
My daughters both have 'cooking' lessons at school and it drives me mad that, in four years, neither of them have cooked anything savoury and their list of ingredients often includes tins and packets.0 -
Home cooking for me is putting the meal on a plate0
