Scammed! Will Paypal refund me?

I have been stupidly scammed - bought 2 'jumpers' through an Instagram link (lady closing her company down due to family issues. Paid £65. They arrived - very poor quality and nothing like as shown on website.
I have asked to return them - have to send them back to China at my cost. I'm not going to do that as it will cost me more than I paid for them and then I'm sure they will disappear!
I paid via Paypal - can I use their Buyer Protection scheme for a refund does anyone know?
Many thanks
and company is called Claire London - do not buy from them!!

If the items weren't as described then PayPal Buyer Protection should apply....

I regularly see these 'sadly I'm closing my business' sales on Facebook. Always from some 'business' I've never heard of before. Always the same sort of wording, although the type of products vary. I've always been a bit doubtful of their authenticity. It would appear that I've been right to be sceptical. Sorry to hear your purchase has not been what you expected OP.

As a general rule - buying something online (i.e. that you can't inspect in person beforehand) from a company that is closing down is *never* a good idea - you're effectively accepting that you won't be able to enforce your consumer rights.   Even if it's not some type of scam, what happens if there's something wrong with it when it arrives?

Although if on social media, odds on a 3rd party claiming they are them....

1st rule. Ignore adds on social media 👍

Domain registered a month ago - I think this is the website. Returns info has very limited information (no address).

In their terms of service - they claim to be under Dutch jurisdiction, but clearly state their products are shipped direct from China.

Unfortunately, this looks like a decent website but is a spin up, ship, and close down before people click on business.

Looks like a typical shopify website, just like the many others that crop up on here with issues...

  • My daughter has had the same experience as you, but with another ‘online store’ called Isadora - London. They go to great lengths to convince the customer that they are a bona fide retailer, with a shop in London. That is why my daughter placed an order with them. I’ve done a bit of research and discovered at least 6 of these scammers, all with identical products and the same MO in their website. I’m reporting this one to Trading Standards

Your best bet is the goods do not turn up.

At the moment social media is awash with companies calling themselves (something) - London. Not one of them lists a UK, let alone a London address. many do not even have a address listed at all..
