Today received a quote for Loft Insulation as follows:
Loft Floor Measurement = 35 sq mtrs. Propert Semi Detached.
Remove and dispose of existing 300mm deep fibre glass.
Give a full mould treatment.
Install 'knauf' earth wool 44.
Ensure vents are clear and insulate areas that were previosly empty.
Re-install boarded area approx 3 sq mtrs on risers.
Company has a Trust Pilot review of 4.6.
Price quoted is £3300.00 is this a reasonable price for the work?
Thanks for any replies.

Not sure what the point of ripping out existing 300mm insulation would be? Are you planning to convert the loft or something?
Loft insulation itself isn't expensive at c£50 a roll and you'd probably only need 10? Rolls so I'd say that quote looks a lot?0 -
Thanks for reply, apparantly the old insulation is not up to current standards, so I am told, it is the original insulation when built some 20 odd years ago, also it is very damp due to condensation.0

Thanks for replies, will be looking for alternative quotes definitely seems to expensive.0

I do not think the damp is due to the insulation itself, but maybe some ventilation has been blocked by accident/incompetence.royP_2 said:Thanks for reply, apparantly the old insulation is not up to current standards, so I am told, it is the original insulation when built some 20 odd years ago, also it is very damp due to condensation.
Possible replacing it all is a bit OTT, rather than just adding to it. On the other hand I would think the labour cost will be the biggest part of the job by far.0 -
Was told to remove existing insulation will cost £1500 and £1500 for new ones. Am still looking for an insulation company .0

I replaced ours ,well i will rephrase that ,i removed all the old insulation out of our loft prior to having it replaced to the current standard ,wore a pair of gloves and goggles BUT wish i had put my overalls on as my arms were itching for days after ,just took a lot of wheely bin bags up ,filled each one and threw them out of the loft hatch ,took them all to the council reclamation site.cherry76 said:Was told to remove existing insulation will cost £1500 and £1500 for new ones. I know this might not be the advice you're looking but I will recommend you do it yourself. Honestly, you'll save so much and you'll probably take more care doing it.1. Get a full head to toe suit.2. Get some big goggles.3. Get some good lighting.4. Get an industrial hoover.5. Get the loft insulation.6. Get a roll of bin liners. All of this should cost you no more than £400 and it's a matter of spending a day or 2 doing the job yourself. Please save the money and do it yourself, this is one of the easiest DIY jobs provided you get the right materials.0
